WTA BNP Indian Wells Open: Shelby carves out a win against Leylah

In the Round of 16, USA’s Shelby Rogers and Canada’s Leylah Fernandez engaged in an intense three-set match, with Shelby triumphing 2-6, 6-1, 7-6(7-4). After losing the first set by a big margin, Shelby gritted it out versus the teenage sensation. Leylah committed a perilous five double-faults while she got beaten on the receiving points, where Shelby procured a 56-47 point advantage.

Fernandez did get a 60-58 points edge on the service points but the double-faults seemed to be her undoing. With the win, Shelby has drawn a match-up with Jelena Ostapenko, who beat Iga Swiatek 6-4, 6-3. In other results, Barbora Krejcikova beat Amanda Anisimova, Jessica Pegula thumped Elina Svitolina, Victoria Azarenka overcame compatriot Aliaksandra Sasnovich.

Meanwhile, Barbora Krejcikova nailed a win versus Barbora Krejcikova, Angelique Kerber eked out a win against Ajla Tomljanovic. Anett Kontaveit beat Beatriz Haddad Maia comfortably. At the time of writing this piece, the game between Ons Jabeur and Anna Kalinskaya had just started.
