World Sailing is pushing a proposal to include Sailing as an event for the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics. The sport last featured during the 2016 Rio Paralympics after being first included in the 2000 Sydney Paralympics. After sailing got no place in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, World Sailing’s bid to get a slot for the 2024 Paris Paralympics fell short. The Paralympic committee deemed that the sport lacks the reach among the mass so it can’t be included. To counter this notion, World Sailing will construct a blueprint to increase the game’s reach and become more inclusive.

We know that other major sports looking for reinstatement are already drawing up their bid plans. We know that International Paralympic Committee President, Andrew Parsons, has already publicly declared that the IPC will be looking at potential 'new sports' following the successful introduction of new, youth-focused sports at Tokyo 2020/ We are on track to achieve our strategic priorities by 2023 but we are taking nothing for granted.
