Russian Varvara Gracheva beat German Andrea Petkovic in a three-set game to advance to the Round of 16.
Gracheva took the first set 6-4 but Petkovic clawed back with a stellar 6-2 effort. However, Varvara didn’t let that affect her and took the third set 6-4. Andrea won 96 points in total compared to Gracheva’s 85 but it is the set’s win that counts where Gracheva grinded it out. Andre had a big edge over Varvara in terms of service points, claiming a 64-50 advantage while. Gracheva drew more receiving points with 35 while Petkovic had 32.
In other games, Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina beat German Anna-Lena Friedsam 6-2, 6-2. Meanwhile, Estonian Anett Kontaveit eked out a 6-3, 7-5 victory against Serbia’s Aleksandra Krunic.
At the time of writing the news, Romanian Simona Halep is well on her way to winning versus her compatriot Elena Gabriela-Ruse. She took the first set 6-1 and has a 4-2 edge in the second set.
